How each kind of door in l’Alfàs is opened

A flat door in a block
In the blocks of the town centre and the Albir beach strip. Pulled shut, it usually opens through the latch; double-locked, through the cylinder.

An armoured door
Heavier leaf, several bolts, a security cylinder. Opened through the cylinder whenever it allows; if it has to come out, a new one goes in before we leave.

A villa or semi-detached house
The urbanizations grew over orange, olive and almond groves. Where a house has a garden gate as well as a front door, say which of the two is shut.

A garden gate
Often a surface lock or a cylinder in a metal frame, outdoors all year. Opened through the lock; if it is seized, freed or replaced.

A sliding terrace door
Locked from inside, it is rarely the way in. When the slider itself is the problem, it has its own page.

Doors in l’Alfàs that are opened differently
Houses nobody has opened since spring
The town hall counts 2,626 Norwegians on its register and estimates more than five thousand living here unregistered, and many homes stand closed for months. A cylinder that has not turned all summer is often stiff; it is opened gently, and replaced only if it will not recover. If it is only stiff, a lock change or repair can be booked instead.
Holiday lets with guests at the door
The town hall counted 1,219 tourist dwellings on the register in 2025. When the person at the door is a guest, the owner or the agency confirms before it is opened. Hosts have a page of their own.

Will the door be damaged when you open it?
Not if it can be avoided. A door that was only pulled shut is usually opened through the latch, and a locked one through the cylinder. Drilling is the last option, and it is never done without your agreement.
Is an armoured door harder to open than an ordinary one?
It takes longer, and it depends on the cylinder and on whether the bolts were thrown with the key. You are told what the door needs before the work starts, and the price is agreed then.
The garden gate is locked and the front door behind it too. Is that two jobs?
It can be. Say on the phone which locks are shut and send a photo of each if you can, so the right tools come and the price is agreed for both at once.
Our electronic lock went dead while we were away. Can it be opened from outside?
Most have an emergency power contact or a mechanical override key. If neither is available, the lock is opened like any other, and you are told first what that means for it.
