After a forced entry
Burglary repair Alfaz del Pi: secure tonight, stronger next week
A forced front door, a snapped cylinder, a slider levered off its keep. The first visit makes the house close and lock again; the second, when you are ready, makes it harder to open next time.

What to do when you find the door forced
-
Do not go in alone
If anyone could still be inside, stay out and ring 112.
-
Leave the door as it is
The police may want to see it. Photograph it from close and from a step back.
-
Ring us once the police are done
Say what is damaged: the cylinder, the lock, the frame, a slider. Photos on WhatsApp help bring the right parts.
-
Lock up tonight
The door is made to close and lock on the first visit, even if the stronger lock comes later.
If it happened in the night and you cannot shut the house, use the emergency line, answered at any hour.

High-security locks and the other upgrades
-
High-security cylinders
Resistant to snapping, bumping, picking and drilling, fitted flush so nothing stands out to grip.
-
A guard plate
A hardened plate over the cylinder, bolted through the door, so the cylinder cannot be reached with a tool.
-
Sliders and back doors
Extra locks for terrace sliders and uPVC doors, which are often the weaker side of a house. Sliding and aluminium door locks.
An ordinary cylinder change, without the security upgrade, is on the lock change page. Valuables in the house? A safe bolted down properly is on the safes page.

Security for a house that stands empty
In l’Alfàs, many residents are not here all year. The town hall counts 2,626 Norwegians on its register and estimates more than five thousand more living in the town without registering, and more than half of all registered residents were born abroad. Plenty of homes stand closed for a season while their owners are elsewhere.
This site publishes no crime figures for the town, because we have none we could stand behind. What is certain is that a door nobody opens for months gives no warning when something is wrong with it. The marks an attempt leaves on a lock, and what to do if the key will not turn when you get back.
To book a security visit before you leave, write or ring through the contact page.

Questions from a house that was entered
Should I ring the police or a locksmith first?
The police, on 112, and do not touch the door until they have seen it if you can avoid it. Ring the locksmith straight after: the door is made secure once the police are done.
My insurer wants a report on the damage. Can you give me one?
You get an invoice that lists what was found, what was repaired and what was fitted, with photos of the damage if you ask for them before the work starts.
Nothing was taken, but the cylinder has scratches round it. Is that a break-in?
It may be an attempt. Photograph it, try the key gently, and if it feels different from before, have the cylinder looked at. A guide on this site goes through the signs.
What is the most useful upgrade for a house that is empty half the year?
For most front doors, a high-security cylinder fitted flush behind a guard plate, so it cannot be snapped or gripped. Sliding doors at the back need their own locks; both are looked at on the same visit.
